Dear families,
Week 8 has come around so fast. Teachers are very busy concluding reports, and we have been looking to improve them for the ones later in the year- more news to follow. We are moving to a different digital system for attendance, incident reporting, finance and potentially reporting. This system is called School Bytes. Thank you to all the families who have used it so far to pay for KIOSK and have trialled using it to give excursion permissions and related payments. We will be rolling this out school-wide, so it is very important that we have your preferred email address and contact details, so that we can send texts and permission slips. This is a great sustainable way of doing away with paper permission notes. Contact our school office for more details.
The Kings students continue to offer service at our school several times a year. They are always respectful and interested in the work we do! They have a fabulous school in Parramatta but are nonetheless jealous of some of our facilities (notably the Immersive Classroom!).

The weather has turned very cold recently – please remember to mark all clothing with your child’s name, as we are struggling to return the layers that are taken off in warm classrooms.

This term Room 11 have been very busy learners and have had a wonderful term full of many exciting learning experiences. Brian, Farjaad, Gabriel, Harvey, Hasnain, Maddie and Pranay have all enjoyed exploring our school grounds and transitioning to a variety of locations to: deliver messages, walk around the oval, swim in the pool, play musical instruments in the music room and to the Karonga Kiosk to name a few.

Room 11 has started making weekly Wednesday morning visits to the Mini-Woolies Kiosk in order to practice and develop their purchasing skills within a safe environment. All students wait patiently and together as a class, before entering the Kiosk where they practice their communication skills to select a drink and a snack. Gabriel especially enjoys purchasing a muffin for his snack.

In swimming Pranay, Hasnain and Farjaad made great strides in water confidence and safety during the swim school program. Harvey loves to show his independence and deliver messages to the office. Maddison enjoys exploring and creating wonderful masterpieces, especially our painting of” 69 Roses for Cystic Fibrosis.”

Room 11 love going to music therapy and their smiles say it all. Pranay and Gabriel enjoy strumming the guitar with Bec, Brian and Harvey both enjoy playing the piano while Bec sings their favourite songs and Maddison keeps in time whilst drumming.

Warm regards,
Deb W, Janina and Cassie
We are thrilled to share the fantastic progress of Room 14. Students have established a productive routine, creating a positive and engaging learning environment.

In English, we are continuing to work on our communication skills using Key Word Signs and visuals. We have been reading different books and learning to answer questions to demonstrate that we understand personal texts and describe simple objects in texts.

Room 14 students have also completed related art activities.

In Maths, we have been learning to explore and identify shapes and patterns.
We thoroughly enjoy our Food Technology lessons; we are learning to follow a visual recipe to make different food items.
Room 14 students have been actively participating in a diverse range of extracurricular activities such as swimming, walking and shopping in our Mini Woolworths. Each week we shop at Karonga School Mini Woolworths where we can make purchases such as popcorn, chips, rice crackers and jelly.

With reports due this term, the students practicing skills in all key learning areas and completing assessment tasks with minimal assistance, where possible.
We hope you enjoy our photos!
Until next time,

Club News - Music Improvisation
This semester, Music Improvisation club has been working on exploring sounds and playing to the rhythm of songs we know such as ‘Old Macdonald’ and ‘Wheels on the Bus.’ Our music therapist, Bec, has been great in facilitating engaging opportunities for the students to participate in musical experiences. Farjaad has done well to use an array of instruments to play music. He often chooses to play the xylophone and ukulele. Hasnain is a superstar, often vocalising and singing into our microphone. Gabriel loves strumming Bec’s guitar with her and playing the drums. Sadie has demonstrated strong drumming prowess, playing along to the rhythm of songs she has requested. Music Improvisation club enjoys playing instruments and jamming every Wednesday at lunchtime, and we can’t wait to continue into Term 3!

Dakotah, Haley, Naya, Ishan, Ruby, Steven and Mike have been participating in the “Lucky Strikers” club on a Monday lunchtime. All students have been enjoying the opportunity to play Tenpin Bowling. We have learnt how to set up the pins and how to knock them down. Some of the students use the ramp and others are learning how to place their fingers in the special three holes to knock down the pins. Lucky Strikers is full of fun and laughter with a strike or two.

Today I learnt how to attach/detach the flags to the flag poles at the front of the school. William Li, our School Captain, kindly gave me a lesson on how to bring in the flags at the end of the school day, fold them and put them in the cupboard for tomorrow.
