Dear families,
Welcome back to Term 3! It has been wonderful to see how quickly students have settled back into school routines and engaged in learning.
Last Monday, educators from Karonga School, along with other special educators, attended the annual SEPLA conference. SEPLA, which stands for Special Education Principals’ and Leaders Association, hosts this conference specifically for education professionals across Primary, Secondary, and Special School settings. The event attracts over 1500 school leaders, teachers, and support officers. This year’s theme was Creativity, Culture and Context. It was a wonderful day to listen to inspirational speakers and attend meaningful and relevant workshops to consider and discuss how we can best support students with unique learning needs.
Ruth is currently on leave, enjoying an overseas trip. During this time, I am
relieving as Principal, and Karen Guerin-Kerr is relieving as Assistant Principal. Ruth will be back in week 4 of Term 3.
It's delightful to showcase our students mastering essential skills at the Independent Living Centre during Food Technology sessions. Students are developing patience while waiting for their turn to wash their hands before the lesson begins. They are learning to follow a visual recipe and improving their cutting and chopping skills while preparing a delicious meal or a snack. Each term students explore different aspects of cooking. The students are learning a lot of other Key Learning Areas aligned with food Technology to consolidate their learning. The smiles on their faces after completing their tasks are priceless. The learning experience in ILC opens the opportunity for students to demonstrate these skills at home.
One of the highlights of this term is our Education Week Open Day. The theme for this year is “Proud to Belong.” We warmly invite all parents to visit the school on Wednesday the 7th August between 9.30am and 12.00pm and spend time in their child’s classroom, followed by morning tea and a parent workshop. For more information, please refer to the invitation sent home last week or contact the office.

Green and Gold Day
We celebrated Green and Gold Day today to mark the start of the Olympic Games and show our support for the Australian athletes. It was wonderful to see both students and staff dressed in green and gold clothing, with some wearing green ribbons. Here are some fantastic photos from the event.

Warm Regards,
Kamaldeep Lamba

Room 7 has had a fantastic start to Term 3. We have focused well on learning about ‘We Love You, Magoo’ by Briony Steward and completing tasks and activities with increasing independence. Room 7 has been practicing school PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning).
We continue learning to stay safe around school, be kind to our friends, and remember to look after things inside and outside the classroom. We have lots of fun exploring equipment like climbing nets and trampoline, where we work on our fitness and practise movement skills.

We also have been loving a range of creative arts activities, exploring different materials and musical instruments to make artwork and sounds to express our creativity.

We can’t wait to have lots more fun in Room 7.
Warm regards
Kelly and Kerrie
Welcome to Term 3 in Room 11.
It has been only two weeks, but the students in Room 11 have settled back into classroom routines quickly and have been engaging in a wide range of learning activities already. They learnt about the letters v and y and which sounds they make. All students practised tracing the letters on the interactive whiteboard and in their alphabet books.

Gabriel is a big fan of Reading Eggs and is keen to improve his letter recognition by using the program.
During numeracy lessons, the students have been learning to use ten frames to represent numbers. Look at Pranay working on number 5 and Maddie counting her nine stickers.

Swimming and music are weekly highlights for everyone.

Last but not least, everyone has been enjoying the warm sunny weather. All students have had fun outside on the play equipment whilst improving their gross motor skills. Maddie is a keen artist and added to the chalk artwork in front of Room 13.

Warm regards,
Janina, Deb W and Cassie
The art club is a place where students showcase their creativity through various art forms. They experiment with different art supplies such as paint and various objects to create textured collages.
While Sadie and Paige prefer creating mixed-media collages with intricate portraits, Daniel, Noah, and Sebastian enjoy painting watercolour pieces with guidance from the school art therapist.
On the other hand, George expresses himself through colourful art using crayons and markers, while Mike puts his thoughts into beautiful artwork using art markers.
