Attention Karonga Senior Students Family & Carers
Dear families,
I am pleased to return to our lovely school after being abroad for a family event. It gave me lots of opportunity to reflect on our school, as I met ex-colleagues or university course friends who had taken a different path in Special Education. I am very proud of our students.
It was good to know that the school was in such good hands, as Kamal rose to the position’s challenge and met each issue admirably.
Education Week open day in Week 3 was well attended, with great interest in the workshop we also ran- led by Analise our speech pathologist consultant. The feedback I have received has all been very positive- and if you feel that you missed out, or there was a clash of commitments, the annual Founders Day is only a few weeks away- giving you opportunity to visit our school and join your child in this special event.
We have recently added subtitles to the school video, to be more inclusive, so if you haven’t seen it already, do check out our website and follow the link. It is a great place to direct our prospective families and also for relatives to understand our setting. Alternately this is the YouTube link you are taken to from the website.

We will be moving to digital reports going forward, in line with mainstream schools and sustainable practice. We are currently working out what these will look like but rest assured that we will still apply the same care and attention to them that we have always done with the paper versions.
As we approach the mid-term, Room 6 is committed to improving in all areas of learning. We are actively engaging in hands-on activities to better understand how natural elements influence the creation of various landforms.

Some recent notable events include our visit to Land Cove National Park and Jenkins Kitchen in Week 2, our celebration of Green and Gold Day in Week 3, and our educational trip to Rouse Hill Shopping Centre using public transport.

With the Olympics on at the moment, Room 8 have been using their morning sessions to focus on different sporting activities. In the gym we have been using the treadmill, stepper, balls, rowing, target throwing, walking on the beam and hurdles (stepping over the beam).

We played soccer and threw balls on the basketball court, swam in the swimming pool and rode bikes on the bike track. While doing these sporting activities we have been looking at the science topic push and pull and the different ways we move equipment or our bodies.

Lowenna and Laurie
The students of Let’s Get Fit club are going from strength to strength (pun intended!). They are all very keen to arrive at the gym and all head for their favourite machines to get started. Each week we see improvements- Yousif goes faster on the elliptical, Chris walks further on the treadmill, Mark cycles for longer on the bike, or William completes more step ups. We love celebrating our new achievements. Most importantly though, we are learning valuable skills such as operating the machines safely, sharing equipment with each other and cleaning the equipment after we use it. We are excited to see what other personal records we can achieve!

Emma and Craig
In improvisation club, our group has been exploring different instruments to popular music. We take turns at choosing songs and practice using percussion instruments to make a beat. We have had a lot of fun with an online song maker to hear what our names sound like when written on a musical scale.

The weather has been cold and wet this week. Until the sun shines and we can get back to playing outside, we have been staying safe and dry from the wet weather while we move around the school.
The next P&C meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 21 August at 6.45pm.
Uniform shop
Due to increasing prices from our supplier, we will need to review uniform pricing. We anticipate any change to come into effect from 1st September. Any orders (paid in full) prior to that will be processed at existing prices.
