Dear families,
We have recently been holding review meetings at school. This is an opportunity to review all our students, ensure that they are receiving any additional department supports (specifically vision or hearing support) and listen to how they are tracking from the teachers themselves so that we can anticipate class grouping for 2025.
It is very humbling to hear of all these achievements, and to hear beyond that which is captured in reports in terms of social growth and maturity.
Do contact the school if you would like to reflect on this ‘review’ for your child and add value to their placement.

As we are now half-way through the semester, we have been very busy with our classwork and have been exploring length, area, and volume in maths. Room 2 students have been particularly interested in learning about length and being able to compare various lengths. We have measured ourselves and ordered the class from shortest to tallest, we have used blocks and other informal measurements to gauge the length of various objects in the classroom, and we have stacked the blocks to demonstrate our understanding of long and short.

This semester in geography we are focusing on the main features of Australia including our states and territories, major cities, as well as man-made and natural landmarks. For manmade landmarks we learnt about the Sydney Opera House which culminated in a hands-on display using paper plates and teamwork. When it came time to choose a natural landmark the students focused on Uluru. We used previous sensory art and paint samples to help us create a mosaic wall display after learning fun facts, location, size, and reading stories of how it came to be in the Dreamtime.

We have also been taking every opportunity to enjoy the changing warm weather to take our learning to the oval where we explore living and non-living things, as well as practicing walking together as a group. When the weather is not permitting, we go to the gym instead. At the gym we have been learning to use the treadmill, the elliptical, the pedal bike, and utilise the free form equipment.

Until next time,
Montana and Sophie
Room 5 have picked up in Term 3 from right where we left off in Term 2!
After finishing last term with a fun outing at Zone Bowling, we all enjoyed a well-earned Winter holiday, helping us to recharge and have the energy to do it all over again in Term 3.

The boys lost no time in getting back into the swing of things with our regular routine of going to the gym everyday to work on our strength and fitness. You'd never have known that they'd all been on holidays for two weeks, because they are as fit as they've been all year!
Everybody has been contributing to our continued running of Kiosk. We now have a script to follow when serving customers, which has taken some getting used to.
We've been learning some important life skills, such as teeth brushing. We also celebrated our Australian Olympians by wearing Green and Gold to school.

In class, we have been learning about all sorts of interesting things. There seems to be little doubt that one of the favourite subjects in class is science, as we get stuck into our Space and the Solar System program. Room 5 have been making use of the Immersive Classroom to visit the moon, observe the planets, and even take a ride on the International Space Station!

Music has been as fun and engaging as ever, with our music therapist, Bec, helping the class to write our own song, which I'm sure will be on the Room 5 rotation for the rest of the year!
We have continued with our weekly Community Access outings, which again has proven to be the most popular time of the week. The boys have enjoyed sunny days at local parks and a not-so-sunny day bushwalking at Bobbin Head, where we were lucy enough to see some ancient Aboriginal rock carvings! Talk about lucky! We even made another trip to 360 Action Park, which may have been the most popular outing so far this term! With all that bouncing around on trampolines, it's no surprise there were a few tired bodies piling into the bus for the drive back to school.

The action never stops in Room 5!
Until next time!

The students of Room 13 were very happy to be back at school after the holidays and have quickly settled into the routine. As the weather is warming up, we have been starting the day with a walk around the oval. We are learning to walk together in a group, following the PBL value of ‘safe’. Yousif leads us around and Sadie is good at waiting for her friends to catch up.

On Mondays, we love going to the gym and working with Michelle, the personal trainer. We are all getting fit and enjoy trying the different machines and activities. George likes the rower, while Haley is building up her strength with the weighted balls. Sabrina takes the class on Monday afternoons and last week did some science experiments with magnets. Matty and Thomas were very interested in how the magnets worked.

In history we have been learning about Epping in the past and present and comparing photos, including photos of Karonga School. This is leading up to Founders Day, this year celebrated on Thursday 12th of September, when Karonga School turns 60 years old! We are looking forward to celebrating and hope to see lots of our families there too.
Until next time,
Emma and Michelle
What an incredible dance team we have this year!
At Karonga School, we take pride in providing dance opportunities for our students. They have the chance to expand their knowledge and skills to adapt new and challenging steps. This year, we are showcasing our talents at the Epping Music Festival on November 7, 2024, at Chatswood Concourse.
Our weekly rehearsals take place during lunch clubs in the hall, with seven students, including Emma and Kamal, making up our team. We are thrilled to be the only special school participating in this festival. Let’s come together and cheer for our amazing Karonga dance team!

Until next time,

Rooms 3 and 4 are learning about marine sea animals for Science and they kindly included me in their lesson on green sea turtles.
