Dear families,
It has been great to see so many of you attend school for either IEP meetings (Individual Education Plan) or ITP meetings (Individual Transition Plan). It is so important that we work together to set goals and realistic time frames, keeping the students at the centre of everything we do.
In week 5 we celebrated how we use our Mini Woolies to teach shopping and work skills by being filmed for a Channel 7 segment called ‘Bright Side’. It went out on Sunday night so check our Facebook page if you want to watch it again or share it with family and friends.

I was recently asked to give a talk at the Kings School with whom we partner. This prepares the Y9 boys at the Kings School for their ‘service’ days in terms 2, 3 & 4, and I also referenced the 2 significant days that they facilitate: Harmony Day (20.03.2025) and Founders Day (11.11.2025). The auditorium was packed with students and the messaging to them is that serving at Karonga is a privilege. There is not to be any inappropriate language or behaviour, and they need to apply to be selected for this initiative. Pretty impressive. I was very proud to hear this, and proud of our school that we are recognized at such a prestigious school.
I do hope you can join us at the upcoming Harmony Day celebration (March 20th) when the Kings boys facilitate the serving of the meal and clearing up afterwards. It has always been a well-attended event, and such a simple act- to share (cultural) food together.
Warm regards,
Ruth Rogers
Principal
Harmony Day - Thursday 20th March
If 2024 is anything to go by, this year's Harmony Day Lunch is going to be a feast for the senses for our wonderful Karonga community. We look forward to seeing you from 12noon on the 20th.

Welcome to Room 2. Cassie is our SLSO and Michell is the classroom teacher. We have seven very active boys who have been busy completing lots of great work throughout the different Key Learning Areas.
On Monday we have Art Therapy, the Gym and Home skills which makes for a very busy day.

We have been integrating Art Therapy with our Science theme Material World, and we have been making Paper which has been awesome.

In our Maths lessons we are learning about length, and we have measured each student to see how tall we are and then at the end of the year we will see if anyone has grown.

Last Tuesday we made pancakes for Shrove Tuesday, and we had lots of fun tasting the pancakes either plain or with ice cream.
We are enjoying transitioning around the school, walking as a class preparing for Community Access each Tuesday starting Term 2.
Kind regards,
Michell & Cassie
This term our Yarning Circle has been focused on using traditional story telling symbols to create an artwork about gathering and community for Harmony Day later in the term. We began by re-familiarising ourselves with various storytelling symbols and their meanings, before gathering materials from the land, brainstorming symbols we would like to use, and piecing it all together for a collaborative artwork.

This week, our club enjoyed exploring the materials that were gathered from the land including exploring the different smells that our leaves and branches brought with them. We then began to pluck the leaves from the stems and glue them in the shapes that we needed for our story. We will continue this next week and are excited to share our art with you!

KIND SAFE LEARN with our School Leaders
Geonwoo is showing kindness to his classmates as he opens the door to the classroom for them, and putting the library books away for the teacher.

The next P&C meeting will include our annual AGM and is scheduled for Wednesday 19th March at 6.45pm in the Meeting room at Karonga School. We look forward to seeing you there.
Warm regards,
Yee-Foong Stone
P&C President
