It has been great to have so many students return to school and settle back into Karonga with so many smiles. For many it must have seemed like an extended school holiday, but for others who have found it confusing we have attempted to provide security and safety. They have transitioned back remarkably well and they are slipping back into school routines.
The swimming pool and gym remain closed – under advice from the Department of Education and we are not holding assemblies and large group gatherings in line with health advice.
We continue to be unable to have parents, volunteers and external therapists attend the school, and we will let you know when this changes. Thank you so much for adhering to safe practices around drop-off and pick-up, but we have also directed a member of staff to facilitate traffic flow so that the school entrance is not blocked, and we can be a safe school.
We have used the time afforded us while school has not been fully operational, to make some alterations to the safe space in the pool area and consulting with the staff about developing the main playground. We will attempt to manage these constructions to be least disruptive to the students now that they have returned.
I am hopeful that we can gear up to offering more and more programs over the coming weeks, and can’t wait for Jann to be allowed back on site- Music therapy remains a favourite, and missed, activity.
Warm Regards, Ruth Rogers
At the start of Term 2, preparations for Mothers’ Day kept the students busy and engaged as they painted trays and love heart, for their mums.
All students are back to school, Yayy!
Room 5 students are ready for learning, every day students are working on their personal goals. Aiden, Massa and William have been following their class routines and working on their two-digit addition problems with minimal assistance.
Gianni is practising his life skills goals by cleaning up his space and washing his container after finishing his healthy breakfast.
Ethan is working on his gross motor skills by tracing numbers and Titan is extremely focussed while completing his puzzles and matching his name and address to the base card.
Our focus on Positive Behaviour for Learning continues and students have been displaying principles of being Kind, Safe and Learn throughout their school day.
We are looking forward to having an exciting term ahead.

Until next time,
Kamaldeep and Emma.
Karonga students have been busy in Technology so far this term, developing their creative skills using a range of multimedia iPad applications. We have borrowed a green-screen filming kit from the Department’s STEM.T4L program, and have started producing an exciting ‘Karonga TV’ project with students switching between the roles of both actor and filmmaker. More to come on this exciting project

For the past couple of weeks, students have been learning to take photos with the iPad and use them to create some interesting artworks. They have been guided through the process of using ChatterPix; an iPad app which helps to develop creative photography skills. Students can even record their own voice (or somebody else’s voice or use a switch recorded message) to make their photo interactive. Loads of fun! A digital tutorial ‘How to use ChatterPix is available from the link below: https://read.bookcreator.com/n73mT5hKsVSzYF8RT6rZalwkahE3/eqCGOfWbT42YEF0e9rtsWw
Looking forward to seeing students developing their multimedia skills develop over the coming weeks!

P&C Uniform Shop COVID-19 Update
The P&C has had to implement some changes to the process of purchasing school uniform items.
1. The uniform order form can be viewed & printed off from the Karonga School website (https://karonga-s.schools.nsw.gov.au). Please ensure a copy is sent to the school after online payment is made.
2. Payments are to be made only via direct deposit into the P&C account (no handling of cash at this time) – account details are on the uniform order form.
3. We are currently unable to refund or exchange clothing items. Due to COVID-19 Health & Safety protocol’s, we are unable to accept returned items for resale and we are not able to visit classrooms for fittings, so please refer to the sizing chart on the website to assist you in making correct size choices.
These changes will be in place for the rest of the year. Thank you for your patience and support.
