The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) & the annual review of documentation has been conducted by Murray and myself, with teachers representing their class, on a roster basis. It was a great opportunity to appraise our documentation and ensure that it reflected our students’ needs. We also took the opportunity to start a conversation about concluding 2020 and forward focusing our classes into 2021, but this will need some continued deliberation over this term and into next.
Coinciding with this review of documentation has been the Public School process known as External Validation. This is a mandatory review of all schools, including special schools, and offers us the opportunity to consider “where to next”. I hope to share the prepared submission with interested families at a future P&C meeting so that you can be best informed about what we have been focusing energy into, and where we plan to focus our school over the next 4 years. This has been a very rigorous process where the Executive have prepared a submission for the panel (who will meet over Zoom due to COVID-19 restrictions) but it has given us a great opportunity to reflect on the past few years and how we drive learning programs at Karonga School.
The new plan, called the Strategic Implementation Plan, which is to be finalised by the end of Term 1 2021, is written by consulting with the school community about what initiatives should be driven and how best to support teaching and learning for all ability levels.
I trust that many of you got to see the virtual tour video we prepared for Education Week last week. It has been viewed over 400 times at a recent count. If you haven’t- go to our school website:
- Click on the first tab, beneath our logo where it says ‘About us’.
- Click on the ‘Virtual School Tour’ on the right-hand side of the screen.
- Click on the YouTube link above the screen shot.
Enjoy.
This video was abridged to just 2 minutes and submitted to the Department of Education – where it will be shared over the coming weeks as a snapshot of our school!
Reminder to parents dropping off their young person – local families have contacted the school to express frustration at the traffic build up due to increased cars entering our school (we are unable to have parents walking in to drop off/ meet their child due to COVID-19 restrictions). School has positioned an Assistant Principal- wearing a Hi-viz vest, at the entry gate on a daily basis to assist this traffic flow, but please assist us to keep on good terms with our neighbours by pulling over so that cars may still pass.
Warm Regards, Ruth Rogers
Hello from Room 5! The students have been very excited to be returning to the classroom and quickly got back to our daily routine. This term is going very fast as we are all busy exploring new things and learning new concepts.
We start our day with yoga to build resilience and to have positive growth, physical and mental development. Ethan is very good at copying the yoga postures in the video.
Massa, Aiden and William have made strenuous efforts in their mathematics programs. They have been doing some sorting activities, telling time, learning to identify amounts, mass, and counting by 2’s and 5’s.
It was Schools Tree Day on 31st July 2020, so we have made beautiful art work with Sabrina.
In Science this year Room 5 students have learnt about forces and now are learning to identify things that are living and non-living. Gianni and Titan enjoyed doing their worksheets and trying to do the best of their abilities.
Aiden and William enjoy reading books to other students and are working on their comprehension skills.
We have started to work on our Father’s Day project, which involves painting and gluing. You can tell we are busy!
Room 5 also decided that we would create an art work that reflects the current pandemic, called “We are all in this together”. We are hoping that we can all work together to help stop the spread of this highly contagious virus.
We’ve got a Science Incursion in coming weeks. We are looking forward to exploring a range of science experiments in a fun way.

Until next time,
Kamaldeep and Emma.
Room 11 have settled well into Term 3 . Welcome back Louisa , lovely to see your smiling face . You have been working hard at home completing lots of work, well done.
We have had Suzie's and Jessica's birthdays to celebrate . We have been making pizza's in our cooking sessions , Naya and Anita were fantastic at chopping up the ham and pineapple and Suzie was amazing at grating the cheese. Last week we also made cupcakes for Jessica's birthday and Ria helped by mixing the ingredients together with the electric hand beater.
In our maths program we have been learning about heavy and light and Jessica completed all the worksheets independently.
We are also continuing with our money program and everyone enjoys using our new shop activity. It is great to be able to swim again as we enjoy the swimming program very much.
