P&C AGM
Please support Karonga’s P&C on Monday March 15th at the AGM. You will not be press-ganged to do any fundraising, but you will be included in knowing about developments at the school, plans for the school and your voice will be heard with suggestions and ideas. The P&C only meets once a month (the third Monday) and not during school holidays/ on public holidays. We will have a tour of the school promptly at 7pm (due to it getting dark quite quickly) and then meet for the AGM in the Therapy Suite- opposite our chicken coop and next to the library. See you all there.
Courtyard Opening
The Epping Club assisted Karonga with a grant to upgrade the courtyard at Karonga School with outdoor musical instruments. The Epping Club executive are coming along to officially open the courtyard, and you may even see the event captured in the local newspaper. The courtyard is used in breaktimes for our more vulnerable students, but can be accessed at other times by all classes. We have installed outdoor speakers, and outdoor PowerPoints so that we can be flexible with the space, and we plan to buy outdoor fans and heaters to anticipate all weather conditions.

Signing Choir
The Signing Choir were asked to perform at the Epping Club on February 25th at their annual Seniors Morning Tea. It was great to go along and share this performance with over 150 people. They performed You’ve Got a Friend in Me from ToyStory, and What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong. All the profits from the Morning Tea go directly to projects at Karonga, and Judy Nunn, the actor and author, waived her speakers fee so that Karonga School could further benefit. Thank you to the Epping Club.
Hi ho it's off to work Room 14 go
George, John, Jaehyun, Massa, Louisa, Geonwoo and Aiden (almost in height order) are the seven hard workers from Room 14. They have been learning gardening skills with Shani and Peter as we have been sprucing up the Room 14 courtyard, vegie patch area, bike track and chicken coop gardens to name a few of the beautiful green spaces we have around Karonga school. During indoor duties we are pining to be back outside again.
Raking, sweeping, weeding, using wheelbarrows, taking things to the skip bins, sorting and cleaning tools and other equipment as well as making artificial flowers from plastic pots has kept us very busy.
A watershed moment was using the hose on our feet to cool down. As you can see in the photos – everyone enjoys waterplay on a hot day!

We will soon be going to the Hornsby Shire Council Nursery for a couple of days to learn more horticulture skills as we begin our Community Access program. Stay tuned for more updates from our budding gardeners.

This year we welcome George to Room 8. He joins Agam, Ma’afu, Viki, Steven and Thomas. Room 8 students have been enjoying weekly visits to the school library. Thomas and George particularly like selecting a book to borrow each week.
We are studying sea creatures as part of our visual arts unit of work. Students have been learning about the characteristics of some sea creatures and creating sea creatures as part of our wall display. So far we have investigated the jellyfish, dolphin and stingray. Ma’afu and Agam have demonstrated a keen interest in using the paint rollers.
Our science program is focused on turning organic waste into compost. We are learning about worm farm and worm composting. We are currently investigating living and non-living things in the school environment and will start our class worm farm in the next few weeks.
The students are learning cutting skills by ‘snipping’ play doh snakes and straws. Play doh is a very popular activity, with students learning to take turns and share preferred equipment. Steven and Viki love to share and include others in play doh games.
Room 8 students are always practicing PBL skills. They are demonstrating SAFE by washing hands and waiting for swimming to begin. LEARN is always sitting at the desk during worktime and KIND is sharing toys and equipment with others.
It was lovely to see so many parents at the meet the teacher evening. Ideas, experiences and resources were shared as well as telephone numbers and email addresses.
We look forward to a year of learning and achievement in Room 8, and so far we are off to a great start.

Class 5 have settled quickly into a new year at school. We have Gianni, Titan, William from last year’s group and we welcome Sarah and Sidney to our class.
All students have enjoyed a wide variety of activities in our first few weeks. Hydrotherapy saw many big smiles as did sensory activities.
Students have also enjoyed Morning circle time activities, including songs and looking at their own photos. They greet their teachers and friends on arrival at school and enjoy taking turns to participate in a range of exciting lessons and activities throughout the week.
Cricket was a big highlight for Room 5 students for first five weeks. Students learned great skills and further developed their hand and eye coordination.
Craft activities and music therapy sessions are also a highlight and we have listened to music and made crafts related to Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day and painting relating to the season of autumn.
The students in Room 5 are also very busy developing their Communication, Literacy and Numeracy skills and working on becoming more independent in every possible way.
