Swim School is always an exhausting time for students and staff alike, but really does pay dividends. The confidence as well as improved skill-set is a great thing to see. Thank you to the whole school community for your understanding at this time: tracking down swim bags, tired students, and, for senior students, the suspension of the regular swim program. (Reminder to label all items that come to school- we are struggling to connect clothing to owners while swim school is on).
May I remind you that book bags/ swim bags are available through the P&C at a very reasonable cost of $5. For the price of a cup of coffee you can secure a great logo-ed bag which can be easily attached to wheelchair handles, tied to school bags or hung over shoulders. I do encourage you to personalise it with a keyring (or other) so that your child can recognise their personal bag.
The Epping Music Festival will be on in 2021, and I have attended meetings to ensure that Karonga is represented in both the Dance section, and the Signing Choir. The Signing Choir are busy practicing ‘Perfect’ by Ed Sheeran for the performance, proposed to be on Thursday October 28th, and to be supported by the Combined Choir from all schools (some 400 in total) to the song ‘You’ve got a friend in me’ from Toy Story. Karonga staff join the combined choir each term to practice the signs, which is great local exposure for mainstream schools. The Chatswood Concourse has been used previously, but has yet to be confirmed as the 2021 venue.
Today (Friday May 7th) has seen the best attended Key Word Sign workshop since we initiated it in 2016. We have had many parents/ carers attend, and we have even had a waiting list for the course for the first time. This commitment from our families is amazing, and really appreciated. The feedback I get from families always seems so positive, and the added ability for families to mingle and share experiences is an added bonus.
Warm Regards, Ruth Rogers
Room 11 have been going to the gym and now we have lots of help from Emma and Michelle on Monday.
We are improving our health and fitness by working out on all the machines, as well as doing a circuit working on our balance. We are hoping by the end of the year Room 11 will be a lot fitter and stronger.

New Student Introduction - George
Karonga School welcomes George to kindergarten in Room 8.
George has many interests including climbing in the playground, building towers with blocks, experimenting with musical instruments during music therapy and playing with toy trains. He has demonstrated a keen interest in learning, particularly colouring in, tracing and writing, sorting numbers and using a paint brush during visual arts lessons. This week, George made a card and potted a succulent plant to give his mum on Mother’s Day.
George has settled into the Karonga School routine exceedingly well and we wish him further success in the years to come.
New Student Introduction - Haley
Hello, my name is Haley.
I am 5 and in kindergarten.
I enjoy strumming the guitar and singing along to music.
In room 7, I like to look at books, pictures and play with my friends.

The students in Kindergarten to Year 6 have enjoyed taking part in Swim School for Weeks 2 and 3 of Term 2.
The two weeks of 1:1 intense swimming has assisted all the students to develop their confidence and swimming skills. Although some of the students have tired as the week continued, their skills have blossomed and the smiles have said it all. Many thanks to all the staff who have assisted the teachers from Swim School to enable the program to run smoothly. It is with all your commitment that our students can flourish.
To all the students who have been part of the program, I am so proud of you all; how you have welcomed our Swim School teachers and have generalised your swimming skills with new instructors. I can’t wait to see these skills develop further during class swimming.
A reminder that the swim program for the whole school commences again from Monday the 10th May 2021

Lunchtime Clubs - Bilma Tappers
During second term, Jennifer and Megan welcome Timothy, Timmie, James, Louisa, Jayden C and Genesis to our tapping group.
So far, we have had one session, however, it was very clear that Old Man Emu by John Williamson is a firm favourite. All students demonstrated rhythm and engagement. We look forward to many hours of group music participation and appreciation during the term.

University of Technology Volunteers
Early this term a team of volunteers, known as “The Big Lift”, from the University of Technology, Sydney came to Karonga to lend a hand.
They spent the day in the gardens, weeding and mulching, and constructed the new shaded picnic table up near the orchard.
We would like to think Jazz and The Big Lift for reaching out and volunteering their time to refresh our gardens.
