Hello everyone,
Thank you to all the families who attended the online zoom on Wednesday. Using Music as our theme under the state-wide title of ‘Lifelong Learners’ we had various staff speak about how we engage with music at Karonga School: how we access it, what apps we use, how we assess and report against goals, and fundamentally, how music is universally enjoyed by our students. It was terrific to include Jack our Music Therapist in the zoom – a big shout-out to our P&C who have supported this program for many years now.
I am obligated to say that all students should learn remotely, and this remains the government message, but we do have around 20% of students attending, supported by 4 teachers and 4 SLSO’s. These teams of staff are very strictly rostered so that we keep the school, the staff, and most importantly -the students, as safe as possible.
Very importantly we are initiating a new provision for those students who are learning remotely. Over the weekend the school executive, including myself, will be uploading to our Karonga YouTube channel with resource videos to use with students at home. Next week, and in the ensuing weeks, teachers will add to this bank of videos with further themes. There will be video’s of stories being read, songs and rhymes, cooking sessions being delivered, yoga and movement video’s and even science experiments. Even when lockdown is over we hope that these will be valued resources for families to share with their children when it is the holiday period, when it is a rainy weekend, or if they are off school sick. Once you are in YouTube type Karonga School into the search bar and you should see a range of resources already there- and today Mel uploaded herself reading Pig the Pug to check out the quality from a mobile phone. We hope that these video’s help you and your child to stay connected with school, and in this form, they can be shared at your convenience.
Staff have been working from home building this bank of resources and at school we have been completing some administrative matters like the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data – similar to the Census, which is harvested every few years.
Warm regards
Ruth Rogers

Room 8, Thomas, Agam, George, Steven and Viki welcomed new student Adam to the class late last term. Adam had been settling in well until the current lockdown restrictions were put into place. In the short time we had to get to know him, we discovered that Adam likes the trampoline, trucks, cars and trains.
As with the entire Karonga School staff, we cannot wait until face to face teaching resumes. We would like to acknowledge the excellent job parents are doing teaching from home. We enjoy seeing the photos of students completing learning activities from home.
Stay safe until next time

Over the past couple of weeks Shani and Peter have had the opportunity to get some 'poul-tree' work done for the Karonga chooks. Check out how happy they are with the result... you could even say 'im-peck-able gardening'.
