Hello everyone,
It is so pleasing to have the students settle into the rhythm of Karonga School life again. Buses coming and going, cooking and art programs in full swing and looking forward to 2022 with 8 new kindy children.
We held an Orientation for these new starters on Wednesday, and they all had great fun in the Technology Room with 3 of our staff so that we could get to know them. They used the Interactive Whiteboard, used blocks and bricks, accessed noise activated devices and played outside when it wasn’t raining. We hope to have another Orientation before the end of the year so that we can announce teacher and SLSO names, and best support our new families.
We welcomed Lissette to our school this week. She is a qualified Art Therapist and we have booked in this opportunity over 4 weeks to have a taster of this program and consider if it will suit Karonga students. The P&C have agreed to fund this program if feedback is favourable- another reminder to be involved with the P&C who make these program decisions. This is a direct benefit of being involved with the non-fundraising committee.

Warm regards
Ruth Rogers
Principal
It is so good to see the students return to the classroom. We have been very busy since our return. Zena, Shuyang and Suzie enjoyed being back to music jamming with Jack. Suzie loved playing the drums, Shuyang tapped the rhythm sticks and Zena strummed the guitar. James showed great enthusiasm during his swimming lesson while Naya , Ria and Jessica have been very creative during our craft activities. Hoping the rest of the term will be filled with lots of fun activities to complete our eventful year.

We are back, bigger and better than ever! Room 13 boys have shown us just how well they can adapt to changes with fantastic engagement in some wonderful new activities such as art classes with Lisette and exploration of light projection in the new immersive classroom, with Mel.
We have enjoyed many picnics on the oval and at the various lunch tables around the school. We have learnt to stay together when transitioning to activities. We have enjoyed a great balance between active, sensory and quiet learning times. We have dodged the rain and managed many outdoor activities! Go Room 13!!

Every day, Room 14 hoist three flags up the Karonga flagpoles. These include the national flag of Australia, one for our First Nations people and another for Torres Strait Islanders.
Thursday, the 11th of November was Remembrance Day. This commemorates and pays respect to the service and sacrifice of our veterans and current serving personnel as well as civilian lives lost during war times.
Two of our students, Geonwoo and Aiden lowered the flags to half mast between 10.30am and 11.02am. This procedure follows the official Australian government flag protocol for Remembrance Day. The young men were very respectful as they performed this duty and even saluted!

Why did the Karonga chickens cross the road?
The KCF (Karonga Chicken Friends) in Room 14 investigated the eternal question during the week… “Why did the chicken cross the road?”
Well, partly it’s because Room 14 took them for a walk using puppy leads. In addition, Aiden said “It was because the chickens looked left then right then left again. Then they knew it was safe to cross.”
Here are the students from Room 14 being very gentle with our KCF.

During Term 4, Alanna and Sujung welcome Yeting, Lachlan, Shania, Jesse, George and Issa to the MasterChef lunchtime club. Every Monday we come together to enjoy a variety of different cooking activities. In Week 4, we made delicious pancakes and in Week 5 we made blueberry and mango flavoured jelly. Issa and Lachlan enjoyed watching the pancakes bubble, and Yeting and Jesse had fun stirring the jelly mixture to make the crystals dissolve. We’re looking forward to making lots of different tasty treats together!

We are back in action! The students are very excited that they are learning and practising Key Word Signs on our old and new songs including ‘True Colours’, ‘A Thousand Years’ and many more. This year we had also added a new song “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran. We are getting better each time we practise. We rehearse once a week during break times on the stage in the hall. Sadly, one of our year 12 student has finished for this year. We wish John good luck for his new journey towards post schooling. Signing choir is led by Ruth, Emma, Mel and Kamal. We are looking forward to performing next year at Epping Music Festival at Concourse, Chatswood.
Until next time,
Kamaldeep Lamba.
On Tuesdays, a small group of students attend the Nail Salon. While at the Nail Salon, we get to choose our favourite colour nail polish to put on our nails. We smell different types of moisturisers and choose which smell we want massaged into our hands and arms. We even get to use the foot spa.
Amy is enjoying a massage.

Heba is making sure her nails are dry.
Noah is getting a foot soak in the spa.
Leila is watching her nails be painted.
