Hello everyone,
We were finally able to have families on-site for our end-of-term assembly! The students were particularly calm, and our sound system did not let us down- hooray! After an Acknowledgement of Country, and National Anthem – both led by students, we had the delivery of Principal Awards, a video compilation of the term’s activities, and the signing choir perform. We had half a dozen family members who stayed to have coffee (from our new machine) and as the weather warms we hope to have these gatherings in the café area outside the new canteen.

For those who missed the assembly and the chance to visit school, we will be opening our doors during week 3 of term 3 for a tour of the school, visit our new provisions/ spaces and a chance to go into the classrooms. We will also be having a workshop about the great new Literacy program we have for our students, run by one of our teachers and our school speech pathologist. Look out for flyers coming out in Term 3.
We had a number of teachers take industrial action on 30.06, but with reduced student numbers attending, we combined groups and supervised the students. Thank you to the whole school community for considering the impact of the Industrial Action.
We have farewelled Mel Currey at a little meeting before school today. After 12 years with us she is moving to another school to run their support unit.
On a positive note, we recently held interviews for permanent SLSO positions, and we are please to welcome Peter, Hyma and Michelle B into permanent roles at our school.
On Monday July 18th all teachers and support staff will be attending the state-wide conference for Special Education at the Entertainment Centre in the city.
School resumes on Tuesday July 19th and we look forward to seeing all our students then.
PS We have called The School Photographer and they will forward the photography packs to us in Term 3.
Room 2 enjoyed watching our therapy dog, Tess, have her bath. We wrote a predictable text story about the dog-wash. Each student chose something that they saw during the experience to add to the story. We have enjoyed our activities that are based around the letter of the day, with the students developing greater independence with their deskwork.
Room 2 likes playing in the new Aston playground, that was named after our first Principal, Betty Aston. They have enjoyed the new challenges it offers. We wrote a story about the playground with each student choosing their favourite piece of equipment. Room 2 students have been choosing books to read for pleasure in the mornings after unpacking their bags.

We have practiced staying together on our Autumn walks to the liquidambar tree and the ANZAC gardens.
Room 2 have been doing Art Therapy with Lissette this term and have been thoroughly immersed in the experiences. We have explored paint, crayons using stencils, mask making, clay and paper mache.

Music therapy has been a big hit with Jack and our student music therapist, Beck. The students have used a variety of instruments and vocalisation to explore sound.

With reports finalised and programs wrapping up, Room 5 can reflect on what has been a fun and fast-paced Semester 1.
While in Term 1 we welcomed Timmie to our class, now in Term 2 we had the delight of bringing Hannah into our group, who has taken to Room 5 like a duck to water.
Our Science Living World unit of work has given our students the chance to grow and care for their own plants while learning about the lifecycles of living things. Gianni took a particular interest in lifecycles and loved examining Karonga's tremendous collection of insects with his magnifying glass!
William and Timmie have both shown tremendous enthusiasm when helping at the dog wash. The two of them practically took over the whole operation! They shared and swapped roles while working together beautifully.
Swimming has continued as one of our favourite times of the week. So good we do it twice! Hannah can't get enough of the water, while Kugan is progressively becoming more engaged in swimming and playing with his friends!
All our students have continued to show fantastic enthusiasm and involvement in some of our favourite activities, including cooking, music therapy, engaging in our new climbing playground, visiting the library, and technology.
That's all from us in Room 5. Looking forward to a successful Term 3. See you then!
From Liam and Sujung

Term 2 has been a very busy time in Room 8.
We have been lucky enough to have Art Therapy each Wednesday with Lissette. The students have thoroughly enjoyed exploring and experimenting with paper collage, paints, clay and leather work.
Jordan especially enjoyed working with clay and Timothy demonstrated attention to detail during leather work activities. Each student has created a leather key ring and wallet. We are saving them as gifts for Christmas.
Students have embraced the school wide introduction of the Four Blocks Literacy program. Christopher always locates the letter of the day and Ashton has been creating some very interesting sentences about dinosaurs.
We have been enjoying the lovely sunny winter weather and taking long walks around the 7 acres of Karonga School land. The boys have also appreciated the new climbing equipment in the Aston playground. Oscar and William particularly revelled in playing pirate ship atop the ‘spider’.

As we head towards the school holidays, we wish everyone a safe and healthy break.
