Hello everyone,
As Term 3 draws to a close, we thank you for supporting our school in so many ways this term. We had an Education Week open day in week 3, where families were able to join their children in class and listen to a talk about what Literacy looks like at Karonga; we had Founders Day on September 14th where families and community members joined us to celebrate a date which signifies those first parents who formed a school with the same name, and last week we had an end-of-term assembly. The assembly was a great opportunity to celebrate success and acknowledge student learning.
By far the biggest event was the Founders Day event which ran over 2 hours. The P&C had funded a petting zoo with which to engage the students, and had additionally supported the Music Therapist and Art Therapist offering short activities during this time. The Kings School, who played live music throughout the 2 hours were very well received, and provided a great neutral activity where the school community could sit back and relax.

We had between 50 and 60 family and community members attend Founders Day, but as we used the whole site we were not overwhelmed and the event seemed fairly stress-free. The light lunch provided by the school seemed well received and feedback from the school staff was overwhelmingly positive.
For those who attended- please give us feedback about how it went, and propose any changes we could make or include to make the next one even better. For those who were unable to attend- please put it into your diary for next year, and join us for this very special day.
Enjoy the school holidays everyone, and we look forward to seeing all students return on Monday October 10th.
In Term 3 we had some great weather and Room 4 has made the most out of our learning spaces outside the classroom. All students have enjoyed visiting different indoor and outdoor spaces.
Jayden and Zena have been walking through the school grounds with enthusiasm.

Everyone has had fun to explore the equipment on Maxi’s Playground.

It is always relaxing to visit the sensory room. The students have enjoyed the different lights and calm sounds.

On Friday mornings Room 4 students are busy swimming. Look at us! We are floating, splashing, walking and bopping in the water.

The highlight of Term 3 was of course Founder’s Day. All students had a great time visiting the petting zoo, the music therapy suite and the sensory play area.

As Term 3 wraps up, Room 5 can reflect on what has been an enjoyable 10 weeks packed with learning, hard work and fun!
Room 5 have been busy learning all about space and the solar system. We have been exploring different features of each planet and have used our immersive classroom to visit Mars, the moon and even the International Space Station! Timmie particularly enjoys colouring in each planet and talking about how we all live on Earth!

During Term 3, Room 5 have been engaging in weekly art therapy lessons. We have been getting messy with paint, glue, papier-mâché and clay just to name a few! The students love being able to express themselves in so many different and creative ways!
Founders day was a fantastic opportunity for all our students to engage in a variety of activities. Kugan had so much fun splashing and playing in the pool, while Gianni and William couldn't get enough of the petting zoo!

In week 10 we also celebrated our last class birthday of the year with Hannah's 16th! We invited our friends from Room 6 to our class and we all celebrated with music and some yummy cake! Happy birthday, Hannah!
Three terms down, one to go. Let's make Term 4 the best of the lot!

The boys have been enjoying the beautiful Spring weather. We are working on increasing fitness through fun physical activity. We join Room 13 students most mornings to walk or run laps of the oval and play totem tennis. Chris and Timothy especially enjoy totem tennis. Oscar, William and Ashton have a great time running with Room 13 students Mark, Mason and Farhan. It is lovely to observe students of different ages running, playing and interacting with each other. I addition to walking and running, Jordan likes to weed patches of the oval, a very appreciated activity.
Another fun activity is our aerobics routine before settling down to desk work. All boys are making pleasing progress with their literacy programs.
Students recently made paper aeroplanes and enjoyed flying them in the new Aston playground.

Aston has climbing equipment which all boys thoroughly enjoy. They all nominate Aston as their preferred break area.
Finally, in the middle of term 3, Room 8 bid a fond farewell to SLSO Jennifer. Jennifer had been employed as an SLSO at Karonga School for a number of years. We all wish her the very best in her retirement.
Founders Day
It was fantastic seeing so many families enjoying Founders Day. The P&C were very proud to have sponsored the petting zoo, swim sessions with Wai, music sessions with Jack and art sessions with Lisette. We hope that all Karonga students enjoyed the items in the gift bags too!
Here are some photos from the day.

Uniform Shop
The P&C are looking for a volunteer to assist with the Uniform Shop. This involves processing order forms, packing and restocking as well as quarterly stock-takes. The P&C will support you in this role and would love to have you on board. If you are interested, please send us an email.
The P&C would also like to take the opportunity to thank Jane Craig and Colin Pidd for their many years of service managing the uniform shop.
Sharing resources
Following a parent suggestion at the P&C meeting this week, it might be helpful to some families to share resources, useful contacts or ideas. For example, if you have a good hairdresser, dentist or favourite activity you enjoy doing with your child and are happy to share, please send us an email.
On behalf of the P&C, have a safe and enjoyable school holidays.
