Hello everyone,
It was terrific to have so many of you turn up for the Harmony Day event on Tuesday. Around 50 family members joined the whole school in the hall to share multicultural food together. The spread was magnificent, with such a range of cultural and varied food. It catered for everyone.

29 Year 9 boys from The Kings School gave of their time to prepare, serve, greet, clean up and act as support people to individual students. It truly was an act of service. They learnt so much by joining our school community.
The mums who joined us afterwards for coffee/ tea in the café area of the canteen was delightful to behold- integration at its finest. Families of students from Kindy to Y11 met together and chatted. If we can facilitate this with further coffee mornings then contact me through the school email address with suggestions and we are happy to host them.
We recently held a panel for a teaching position at Karonga School and hope to share the outcome of it with you soon, and later in Term 2 the results of an Assistant Principal Merit Selection Panel. Thank you to the parent representatives who give freely of their time to support these appointment.
Room 1 has begun the school year in a very positive manner. Students, Anita, William L, William R, Oras, Sunday and Sidney are working hard towards achieving their 2023 learning goals.
Some of our highlights of the school week include accessing the school gymnasium, swimming and joining Rooms 2 and 4 for work skills gardening, science and barn dancing.
William L has undertaken the responsibility of independently collecting class mail bags and taking them to Lesley and Cheryl in the front office.
During art therapy each Tuesday, Sidney has impressed Lissette with his patience and attention to detail.
Raj is very proud of his success in independently heating his lunch in the microwave.
Oras independently uses the sandwich maker to toast his sandwiches each day.
Each morning, during literacy, William R creates a co-constructed text. His favourite topics are dogs, Yo Gabba Gabba and Google earth. William is making very pleasing progress.
Anita is our quiet achiever. She completes all activities without fuss. Anita’s favourite activity is her cut and paste literacy activity.
Sunday is probably our most satisfied student in terms of the new classroom sensit beanbag. He enjoys spending his spare time relaxing in the purpose- designed sensory seat.
We are awaiting the delivery of some beautiful seating for our classroom. It is scheduled to be delivered in April. We look forward to showcasing next term.
Until next term

Hello, my name is Rita Skocic and I am the teacher in Room 6. We are fortunate to have Sujung Lee as our class SLSO. Room 6 has had a great start to the year and as we come to the end of the Term, I would like to share with you some of the exciting learning experiences the class has had.
During the Term, the students were lucky enough to engage in Community Access programs on Tuesday’s and Friday’s. These experiences are a part of our literacy program, learning Community Signs, Geography and PHDPE whereby the students have opportunities to learn about the world around them and engage in physical activity.
The students also worked on their communication and socialisation skills and were engaged in valuable life skills such as keeping budgets and being safe while out around transport during their visits to Carlingford Court.
Inside the classroom the students enjoy Aiden’s animated daily Storytime, with Suzie also beginning to show us her amazing reading ability.

Massa shares with us her mathematics skills together with her love for music lessons
Louisa is a star in the swimming pool and shows us glimpses of her spelling skills in the classroom. Naya is always chatting away and keeping us entertained with her great observations, while Geonwoo and Kaden are working hard in all areas.
We are so impressed by the students in Room 6 and cannot wait to see them continue to shine.

Did I mention that I'm a people dog? On Tuesday I got to share in celebrating Harmony Day with our students, staff, school community & invited guests.... and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
I learnt that our school community is made up of an amazing group of families & people who come from many different backgrounds and they are unbelieveable cooks!
I also experienced kindness when I saw the Kings School students helping out around the school for Harmony Day.

2023 P&C Executive
The Annual General Meeting was held last week. I am pleased to continue in the role of P&C President for my second year. Re-joining me on the P&C Executive are Catherine French (Vice President) and Karen Tanti (Secretary). Our Treasurer position is still vacant should anyone have any interest. In the interim, we will continue to engage with a bookkeeping service to assist in financial matters.
I would like to thank Muriel Morato for her long term dedication and commitment to the P&C. Muriel served as Secretary from 2012 to 2017 and then in the role of Vice President from 2017 to 2022. Wishing you all the best and hope to catch up with you at future Karonga school events.
We also welcomed three new general members – Carrie, Catriona and Leah to the committee, bringing fresh eyes and ideas on ways we can support Karonga students.
The April meeting falls within the school holiday period so our next meeting will be held on Wednesday 17th May at 6.45pm.
