Dear families,
We have had some glorious weather recently, giving us great opportunities to get the children out into our playgrounds exploring spaces they don’t often use. The final 2 sunshades should be installed in the upcoming holidays which will help to keep our youngsters safe.
The Kings School students visited recently for a further ‘service’ day at Karonga School, and it is very refreshing to see the way they join our students in their activities and later ask insightful questions. It really is of a 2-way benefit. Musicians from Year 10 will be showcasing their talents at our upcoming Founders Day (Thursday September 14th) and they will be assisting throughout the site - so do make them feel welcome.

We have 3 new students joining us before the end of the school year, and already have the details of several students joining us in 2024. We are currently planning our Orientation sessions so that we can meet the new students and best support the families as they enrol. If you can remember anything that made a difference for your family, or you have a great idea to share to make this experience a positive one for our new families, do email the school and let us know.
We have developed some positive relationships with many external therapy providers over the past two terms. We will, however, be concluding requests for therapists to offer their services on-site so that as we go into Term 4 we quietly conclude the school year and focus on final reports, graduation, and end of year events. If families would like to apply for therapists to attend in 2024, we need teachers to have established their timetables and be able to accommodate them. The Learning and Support Team will review all applications and look at the whole school impact before making any approvals.
Room 7 students have been loving the warm weather and are very happy to be able to play outdoors more and go for walks.
This term we have been learning about Space. The students enjoyed the Science incursion in the giant dome where we experienced the 3-D outer space show with the sun, planets, asteroids, volcanoes and even dinosaurs around us. James particularly enjoyed the experience as he laid back and smiled, while taking it all in.
Ruby and Paige have worked well together to cooperatively play games.
Tarnae arrives with a huge smile each morning. He unpacks his bag very well and hangs it outside the classroom. Tarnae jumps independently and confidently on the trampoline.
Steven has worked hard to improve his cutting and gluing skills and holds a paintbrush to independently paint.
Adam knows the words to many songs and sings happily throughout the day.
James has been a great class helper by taking the initiative to arrange the chairs around the tables each morning.
Genesis has learnt to be a very tidy eater. He unpacks and packs his bag confidently. He is moving around very well and climbing and jumping with improved balance.
Well done Room 7.

Semester Two has been a very beneficial one for Room 12.
We are working on our PLP goals and have already started to achieve some success. Room 12 students have learnt their way around the school and truly settled into their routine. We have enjoyed many aspects of spending our days at Karonga School. In particular on Tuesday’s, we like to go to the Pool as a class and spend our time floating, swimming and learning vital skills to ensure we are safe in a pool environment.
This term we welcomed families back into our school and classroom. It was great to show parents and carer our school and classroom environment during Education Week.
Throughout this year, we have learnt a variety of things, not only academics like literacy and numeracy but also skills that will help us in our everyday life, such as sitting with our class to have a meal, waiting our turn for activities, communicating with our teachers and peers with devices, our words, Key Word Signing, understanding our feelings, hygiene procedures such as hand washing and toileting routines. It has certainly been a very productive year in Room 12. Only one term to go and still so much to learn!

Until next time,
Kamal and Hyma
Science week in Australia is an annual event that celebrates Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Taking place from 12 August to 20 August, this year’s theme was Innovation: Powering Future Industries.
Karonga School organised a Science Incursion that involved the entire school, including Pennant Parade Tutorial Centre (PPTC). The highlight of this event was the Cosmodome, a digital immersive theatre that provided an IMAX-style movie experience without the need for special glasses. For this occasion, the chosen session was “Earth’s Wild ride,” which delivered an incredible 3D immersive experience to the students. The immersive session was not only visually impressive but also aligned with educational objectives as it covered a wide range of syllabus outcomes, making it a highly worthwhile experience.

On Thursday I welcomed a group of volunteers from The Kings School who came to spend time assisting staff and students around the school in classrooms and play areas. The Kings School groups that visit Karonga all exhibit our positive behaviour values of Kind Safe and Learn... especially kindness.
Karonga's school buildings and grounds are always so well maintained and looked after by our GA Jim, and this week Jim upgraded his ride on lawn mower to this sweet ride.
